A Good Day For Democracy

Today, the states of Virginia and New Jersey both held gubernatorial elections, pitting Ralph Northam Ⓓ vs. Ed Gillespie Ⓡ and Phil Murphy Ⓓ vs. Kim Guadango Ⓡ, respectively. In both of the elections, the Democratic candidate won.

In New Jersey, this means that Phil Murphy is set to replace Chris Christie, a Republican governor who has long overstayed his welcome. Both Democrats appear to be planning to work on gun control legislation, which is a good sign.

In addition, Democrats now have a majority in the Washington State Legislature, for the first time in a very long time. Today is a good day for the Democratic Party.

The Moss Monster

It has been said that the Legislative Branch of the United States government is a "swamp". Both sides of said Branch, the Senate and the House of Representatives, are controlled by increasingly deranged wingnuts. In the aftermath of mass shootings, said wingnuts do little other than offer their "thoughts and prayers" to the bereaved.

In particular, there is the "gun lobby", a far-right section of the Legislature that insists that the Second Amendment must be defended at all costs. Even the lives of dozens of kindergarteners.

This is where I shall express my opinion on gun control, in one sentence:

The Second Amendment was a fucking mistake.

Believed by most Republicans (and some Democrats) to be a "civil liberty", the Second Amendment paved the way for the Eric Harrises and Stephen Paddocks of America to murder whoever they choose using automatic weapons. Imagine trying to write laws governing weapons 226 years from now today.

The gun lobby has …

Vote

CJ-Moki here. I want to be short and to the point:

If you are an adult American citizen, get out and vote on 7 November 2017. Today, a gunman murdered twenty-seven people (among them children) in a church in Texas. Voting is one of your duties as an American citizen. On 7 November, special elections will be held across the entire country. If enough Americans voted for candidates who supported stronger gun control policies, this could finally lead to a change for stricter gun control laws (especially in the aftermath of two of the four deadliest shootings in American history).

CJ-Moki, signing off.

And Nothing of Value Was Lost

For over 2 decades, Stormfront was a notorious neo-Nazi internet forum and hate site. Stormfront had been the subject of a "Hate.com", a 2000 documentary that aired on HBO.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, by 2014, posters on Stormfront had killed nearly 100 different people. Among those who had murdered the people were Anders Behring Breivik (a Norwegian terrorist who had posted under the handle "year2183") and Dylann Storm Roof (an American gunman who attacked a historic African-American church and posted under the handle "AryanBlood1488").

However, Stormfront's web host, Network Solutions, has just seized control of the hate site from its admin, Don Black, citing several violations of their Master Services Agreement. This decision comes days after The Daily Stormer (a similar neo-Nazi website) was kicked off of three different hosting services (GoDaddy, Google, and Namecheap) and forced to the (even further-away) margins of the interwe…

Yes, The Confederate Flag Is Racist

Image
While sifting through various, less-than-enlightened corners of the internet, I've heard people claim that what the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia symbolizes is not reprehensible ("Heritage, not Hate", as those folks might say").

First off, let's look at the definition of "Heritage" (courtesy of Dictionary.com):
Something that is handed down from the past, as a tradition.Second off, let's look at the definition of  "Hate" (also courtesy of Dictionary.com):

Intense dislike; extreme aversion or hostility.

The meaning of the flag of the Confederate States of America was described by William Thompson (quote in the caption under the flag). In short, the Confederate Flag symbolized hate, and belongs in a museum (instead of on public monuments and such).

Rant Time: Why John McCain Should Take Down O. J. Simpson

Image
Today, there have been two notable pieces of news:

First off, former football player, murderer, and robber O. J. Simpson has had his latest parole accepted. He will be released from prison in October this year.

Second off, Vietnam war Captain, longtime U.S. Senator, and Republican Presidential candidate John McCain has been diagnosed as having a brain tumor.

I believe that prior to his passing, Senator McCain's final service to the United States should be taking down O. J. Simpson.

Here is why:
Senator McCain was a Captain in the Vietnam War, and was a PoW for half a decade. McCain had the following badges: Evidently, McCain is a tough guy. And a tough guy like McCain would be great for taking down a bad guy like Simpson.
If John McCain happens to be reading this, I have one final request for you:
Should you make it to October, get to Nevada and go take down O. J. Simpson. Do it for America. Do it for the world.
CJ-Moki, signing off. This was a short rant of mine.

Glovannas Is Missing!

Image
Note: The title of this post if based off of the name of the classic Super Mario game Mario Is Missing!
The day is 14 July 2017. I, for the first time, set up my computer in my new house, plugging in all the cords and extension outlets.
Upon getting connected to the internet, I went to glovannas.deviantart.com (the now-former profile page for James Glovannas, a popular DeviantArtist). To my horror, I discovered that he had left this note: I left DeviantArt because I'm never on here and I hate it here. Please don't ask me for my Instagram unless you already follow me. Boom. Just like that, three years' worth of user history was gone. Glovannas had deleted everything they've ever submitted to DeviantArt, as well as every journal post he's made (strangely, his favorites gallery still exists).

Glovannas had nearly 555K pageviews before he vanished, and was popular among other DeviantArtists:
