Incompetence Center

CJ-Moki here. Here's the White House Press Briefing for today (starting at a horrifying point):
As transcribed (archive here) by the official White House website, Sean Spicer stated the following:
"I think a couple things.  You look -- we didn't use chemical weapons in World War II. You had someone as despicable as Hitler who didn't even sink to using chemical weapons."
While Spicer is correct in saying that the United States did not use chemical weapons during World War II, he erroneously stated that Adolf Hitler did not use chemical weapons either.

The Holocaust Museum's online Holocaust Encyclopedia describes the poisonous gas used to murder Jews in concentration camps as being "chemically manufactured", effectively disproving Spicer's bizarre statement.

In addition, a while after Spicer mad the "didn't even sink" statement, he made the following quote:
"I think when you come to sarin gas, there was no -- [Hitler] was not using the gas on his own people."
... This falsehood implies that the 6 million people killed in the gas chambers in the Holocaust were somehow not Germans, which is an extremely vile message to be sending.

Lastly, Spicer said this:
"Thank you, I appreciate that.  There was not -- he brought them into the Holocaust center, I understand that."

camps in Nazi-occupied Poland.

Spicer evidently did not understand that there was more than one place where people that Hitler considered to be subhuman were forcibly sent to go and die.

In general, I feel like Sean Michael Spicer has reached a new low, and I wonder what the next press briefing will be like.

CJ-Moki, signing off. I can't believe that the Press Secretary is this uninformed about an important part of history.
